Why do I need car insurance?

Car Insurance Guide by www.ukquotes.co.ukBelow are a few points on why car insurance is needed in the UK:

  • It is against the law not to have car insurance when driving
  • To get car tax, you need car insurance cover.  The post office will ask for a car insurance certificate when you tax the car.
  • Need a minimum of Third Party cover

When applying for car insurance it may take up to a week for you to receive your certificate while your provider sets up the policy and during this time a cover note is usually sent to you so you can drive the car legally.

The certificate of insurance will include the name, address and the vehicle registration number of the policy holder and the cover start and end date of the policy.  The policy holder must make sure that all details are correct and if any errors are identified they must be amended as the policy could be void if the details are not correct.

There is a government run initiative called the Motors Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) that help and reimburse injured people who have been involved in a car accident when the other party has no adequate insurance cover.
